River watch his surroundings with great disinterest, the floor was wood and by the side of him was a steel fireplace it wasn’t that big but it kept the whole place warm. It was a small room; this place only was one room. The walls rose up above him the wooden panels new and fresh. The door had a rusted lock, so it didn’t take long for the dogs of the streets to get in. River watched the fire crackle and burn, the people in the town lit it every morning and it lasted a whole day. River climbed up the boxes, piled high enough to reach the window. He looked out to the darkened streets, and by the looks of it the café was closing for the night. It was strange that not a single dog had turned up to gather like they did. But it didn’t matter.
Will opened the door to the kennels, River’s excitement grew within him as he bounded down from the boxes he swung the door open and ran towards his master. The door behind him closed and the rusty lock caught back in place. River jumped slightly as it locked and then he continued towards his master. Will turned to see River, he smiled. “Hey River!” he said in almost a whisper, River looked up at him, tail wagging frantically. Will attached River to the front of the sledge, a few of the other, family dogs behind him. Will got onto the sledge and then called “Hike!” The commands rung in River’s ears he darted forward. Air tackled his face, his tongue sprung out of his mouth. The snow caught under his paws and it brushed up his sides. He barked with the other dogs as they went, “Come on!” Will called, but it wasn’t a command so the dogs did nothing. But Will still thought they were going faster anyway, the house came into view and River charged onwards. “Gee!” called Will, River turned to the right helped by the swing dogs behind him. The snowy plains drew in front of him, a tree lie ahead “Haw!” he called quickly, River turned to the left, and the swing dogs helping the team to turn. “Gee!” he called as they turned round the tree. The sledge burst up into the air, as the dogs jumped over a pile of heavy snow, they backed onto the road again. “Haw!” Will shouted, as the dogs turned to enter the outside of the house. “Whoa!” commanded Will, and the dog’s came to a slow stop. Will got off the sledge and opened the farm house doors, he un hooked each dog and then nudged them behind to get them to go into the farm house. Then Will closed the doors with the large padlock and then walked over to the cottage that he lived in. His old mother opened the door and let Will in. While River circled up in the straw in the farm house with the other dogs.

Nakita stood outside as the wind swept by her face, her eyes held a bright glow of hope. Her owner had gone for a long time, too long. She had been left at the kennels, after making a brave escape she had followed the team of dogs that had past her, her legs had strained to catch up. Nakita’s hadn’t run like this in a whole year, they had become slightly chubby in that time. But she was still strong as ever, her paw raised in a begging motion; she scratched at the door and howled, but still as her ears lifted to listen, nothing. Nakita peered into the window, no sign of anyone. Maybe they had gone to bed? Nakita backed off and walked away, back to the town.
Meanwhile a small border collie pup lay shivering in the snow, it shrugged out and went over to the snow covered sledge. She jumped into a bag, the rest of the items in the bag toppled out. When morning came, they were covered by the snow……..

(occ: Continuing in icy plains)
Will came out of his house, stretching his arms and yawning. He was in a full winter jacket, gloves, scarf, boots and trousers. He opened the farm house door, the dogs were just waking at the sound of his arrival. Will moved the dog food bag and filled each of the dog’s dishes. Training today, he had packed his bag yesterday but he had accidentally left it outside along with the sledge. He got a small bag of food and some other snack and put it in the bag, though he didn’t notice the pup inside his bag. River finished his meal quickly, ready to get on the go. He bounced out of the farm house and stood by his harness. Will hooked each harness on and they were off! “Hike!” he cried, River burst into action full of energy, as were the others too. River watched the house pass him as he ran on. Will began to watch the icy plains ahead, “Gee!” he shouted, River turned right heading for the icy plains………
